FUNMILAYO RANSOME-KUTI ACTIVIST & TEACHER

Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was born in 1900 into the family of Anikulapo in Abeokuta in Nigeria. She was a teacher, an activist and above all, a mother.

She was the first female student in her secondary school and the first Nigerian woman to drive a car in Nigeria. She was a teacher.

She taught other women to be self-reliant by teaching them to sew, to write and to stand up for themselves.

Her fight against oppression caused her to be thrown out of the window of a two storey building at age 78. The injuries sustained led to her demise.
