What do you know about the Monalisa Painting?

In this 21st century, it is almost considered a crime to not have “an eye for art”! Let’s not even delve deep into how Modern art evolved into Contemporary art, it modifications and how technology and nature seems to take a new turn with art. But above all these, one thing still remains constant and that is the enthusiasm and appreciation for arts well dated back to the 16th century. Amongst this art is the Mona Lisa painting that seems to be unrivaled to none in the world of art.

What’s so unique about this Art piece?

If you’ve been to an art gallery or even observed a piece of art from a distance then you will agree with me that some pieces are just too beautiful for words! Talk about a hidden puzzle or riddle, an intriguing sight and a perfect blend of color and nature- The Monalisa definitely embraced all these.

Leornado Da Vinci is the mastermind behind this art piece amongst many others he has painted, this particular piece remains the most sought after and yes you are right, it is the most famous painting in the world!

Da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in the year 1503 in Italy and over time, he made some remarkable changes and improvement in it as well as using an ancient method of painting to enhance the features of the piece. The whole painting took a period of 2 years to be completed!

What’s the hidden mystery?

Mona Lisa is an oil painting on a poplar wood depicting a young lady with soft features, transparent veil and no jewelry. This painting isn’t so exquisite and yet it remains a phenomenal work of art. On observing this art piece, the sitter has a mysterious and soft smile that almost tells you that she knows something you don’t. The best part- the 3 Quarter view of the sitter seems to revolve around the viewer as it appears that she is looking at you directly from whichever viewing angle. Amazing right!

Oh and that’s not all, this art piece is so powerful and controversial such that till date there are so many speculations on the sitter’s identity. While some may argue that she is the Portrait of Lisa Gheraldini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo others seem to disagree and relate the painting to Leornado’s mother and yet some still believe that the art piece is Da Vinci’s secret of disguising himself as a female!

In the end, the true identity of the “sitter” remains the hidden riddle of Leornado Da Vinci.

This painting hangs in the Louver museum in Paris and it has the remarkable statistics of drawing in a number of tourists yearly.

Let’s not forget that it is a treasured piece and just like any other treasure, it has had it own fair share of theft over the years after being displayed in the museum. The biggest heist still remains in the year 1911 when it was stolen from the museum. This caused a lot of uproar and media attention as thousands of people were seen to troop into the museum to see the spot it was taken from. It was later uncovered and returned to the museum 2 years later under the false pretense of a thief who once worked at the museum.

Today it is heavily guarded with a tight security as well as a bullet proof glass!

I’m sure you must be wondering how such a painting is still in its original condition and state- the answer still remains that Leornado was years ahead of everyone while he made this marvel. The method and time and let’s not forget patience he poured into the Mona Lisa is one that makes it amazing even after so many years. And although there have been modifications of the painting, the actual credit and ethereal art still belongs to Da Vinci.

Until next time dear reader…
